Mystery Unsolved

In the school hall during the SPM examination (Malaysian Certificate Examination) some 13 years ago, “boom bang boom bang” was heard while the exam was going on.

It happened about an hour after the examination started. It was the sound of fireworks. Just like a pistol being fired into the hall.

The chief examiner and his assistants were baffled on how it can happen because nobody was seen in examination hall earlier on. Nobody left the room prior to the bang-bang-boom!

However, the examination continued without further incident. But the mystery of who set off the fireworks still remains. It went unsolved.

During one of the school holidays. I managed to gather a few student from yesteryears to my house just to keep me informed of their development in life.

One boy asked me, "Cikgu, you still remember the incident of the fire-crackers in the examination hall?"

I said, "Sure. Lucky the police did not come to investigate for firearms!"

He confessed that day to me that he was the one who did it.

He explained how he managed to do it.

On that day he sneaked into the examination hall/school hall very early in the morning. After the cleaner left the hall he put five mosquito coil and two fire-crackers each at the end of the mosquito coil under the wooden stage in the hall. In about one hour the coil will be fully burned to the end and the fire-crackers will be lighted. It will create a situation of chaos for a while.

The interesting part was, he was also one of the examination candidates. So he cannot be blamed for the mischief.

Anyway, he was a very bright boy. He got 8 A’s for his SPM Examination and managed to further his studies in Computer Engineering and is now working with a bank with a local bank.

CIKGU TANYA comments: What a bright boy would do for fun is always puzzling.... Your comments?

  2. well students are like that, they need the fun, they need the attention. It's how you respond to their actions or react to their behaviour. Just play along and decide on the course of action that will benefit both.
